Treating Gynecomastia for the Coming Shirtless Months

For those suffering from gynecomastia, the next logical step after receiving a proper diagnosis would be to scour for all the available options to get rid of the medical condition.

Treating gynecomastia for enlarged male beasts is incredibly broad, with a number of both temporary and permanent solutions. Effectiveness, affordability. and convenience are all main factors to consider when selecting a treatment option. For the most part, medications and/or surgery have been successfully used to treat gynecomastia. Here are some details for both to take careful note of.

Medications

Often times, medications are most effective when used in the early stages of gynecomastia because the enlarged breast tissue often becomes scarred after about a year or so.

It is important to remember though that various treatments for gynecomastia have not been extensively studied, so data showing their effectiveness is extremely limited. As of right now, there are no drugs officially approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treating gynecomastia. In general, however, two types of medications have shown promise for the management of gynecomastia:

• Testosterone replacement: This therapy has shown to be effective in older men with low levels of testosterone, but not as effective for men who have normal levels of the male hormone.
• SERMs: Drugs used to treat breast cancer and other conditions (i.e. selective estrogen receptor modulators), such as raloxifene (Evista), tamoxifen (Soltamox), and aromatase inhibitors (Arimidex), have proved to be useful for some men with gynecomastia. They can help reduce the amount of breast tissue, although they are not able to entirely eliminate the problem. They are most often used for severe or painful gynecomastia.
• Post cycle therapy or PCT: A process that involves pharmacological agents to prevent and reverse the negative effects of excess estrogen produced as a result of steroid use. It is primarily used by those in the fitness industry. It involves SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator), AI (Aromatise Inhibitor) and a testosterone booster.

Breast Reduction Surgery

For those with significantly bothersome breast enlargement issues despite initial treatment or observation, some doctors may advise surgery. There are a couple of gynecomastia surgery options:
• Liposuction: This surgery removes breast fat, but not the breast gland tissue itself.
• Mastectomy: Will remove the breast gland tissue and is often done endoscopically with only small incisions being used. It is a less invasive type of surgery involving less recovery time.

At Home Remedies and Supplements

There is also an option of going the natural route by sticking to the comforts of self-treatment. Gynecomastia shirts are the cheapest treatment option you can start with. A variety of chest compression garments and vests are also available to help minimize discomfort and/or improve cosmetic appearance.

Gynecomastia supplements can further hinder the production of estrogen and reverse its effects—they’ve become incredibly popular among men because they do not require surgery, stitches, time off from work, or hospitalization in order to treat gynecomastia.
